An inexpensive way to try more makeup: Boxycharm

Tips

What is Boxycharm?

Its a monthly makeup subscription for 21/month to be sent 4-5 full sized products. They include a mix of makeup, haircare, skincare and the occasional fragrance. I’ve had it for a good year or so & I love it so I thought I’d share! Its my guilt-free way of trying new makeup products especially because the cost of each product combined equals more than what I pay each month. Of course there are products I’ve received that I’ve hated, but for the most part I’m generally pleased. If you’re in the market for trying out makeup, I’d definitely recommend subscribing. I’ve discovered some of my absolute favorite products through Boxycharm.

Below is what I received this month to give you an idea of what each boxycharm includes. I’ll also insert a link here so you can check out the last few months.

Konjac Sponge by Gorge Beauty

Retail: $18.00

I’m sure when you saw this thing you were like “What the heck is that?” So was I. To give you the short answer, its a sponge thats made of konjac root to exfoliate your face & neck. Konjac root is supposed to help balance the acidity of your skin’s impurities and oils. It has no preservatives, is packed with vitamins & is good for even the most sensitive skin.

I actually ended up trying it out the morning after I got the box and I didn’t really know how to feel about it. The instructions say that it can be used with or without cleanser so I decided to use it without anything first. I can see why they say it can be used for sensitive skin types because its very gentle. My skin didn’t really appear clearer or have any noticeable differences besides my face feeling softer. I can’t say if I like it yet since skincare normally requires a couple of uses before deciding.

Highlighter Double by Vintage Cosmetics

Retail: $35.00

This duo comes with the shades “Rose Quartz” & “Chocolate Diamond”. This product can either be used as a subtle highlight or a blush or bronzer topper. First off, I love the packaging, its so simple and feminine. I just want to keep the box because of how pretty it is. The product itself doesn’t really excite me because I’m never looking for a subtle glow. I also generally prefer to keep my blush and bronzer pretty matte looking so I don’t know how much I’ll really be using this. I’m still definitely gonna try it out on a day when I’m just playing with makeup before writing it off completely. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Pur Mineral Glow Bronzer

Retail: $25.00

I think the word “bronzer” speaks for itself, so there isn’t much explaining needed here. When I first swatched it on my hand, it was really warm-toned so I was worried it would appear orange on me. I applied it on my face right after and it actually seemed to work. I found that the warmth is actually because it has some gold undertones without actually having any shimmer. I’m looking forward to trying it out the next couple of days though because I’ve been wanting a new bronzer.

Fan Brush by So Susan Cosmetics

Retail: 18.95

One of the reasons why I love this subscription is because of how often they include makeup brushes. When you need to buy multiple brushes, they can get expensive really quick. Within the last year I’ve accumulated 10 brushes from Boxycharm and they’ve all been high quality. I can’t get over how soft this particular brush is. I’ve been running it across my face almost the entire time I’ve typed this out because it feels so nice. Its a synthetic bristled brush meaning that it doesn’t withhold product the same way a natural haired product does.

Signature” fragrance by English Laundry

Retail: $25.00

I wasn’t excited at all when I saw this because I’m very picky about fragrances. My eyes are really sensitive, so many perfumes make them water. I also hate constantly smelling the same thing all day so I require something light. It turns out that I actually ended up really liking the scent and it didnt bother me at all. I’m terrible at describing perfume scents so I’ll be honest, I looked up how they describe it. They say it is a mix of quince, white chocolate, and jasmine. (Wow, seriously would’ve never guessed.)

This month’s box came out to be worth a total of $121! Thats really good! Overall, this box is somewhere in the middle for me. I’m excited about a few items & others I’m not so sure about, but its still definitely worth holding onto. If you’re interested in trying it out, I’ll leave a link here. If you do try it out, let me know! I’m always looking for someone to talk about makeup with.
